About the Author

Dr. Ashley Campbell is a licensed clinical and forensic psychologist who has spent the last 15 years working in correctional facilities across the United States. Through her close work with incarcerated individuals on their reentry journey, she saw firsthand how many parents struggled to explain to their young children why they were away. Dr. Campbell hopes Time-Out will help start that honest conversation — empowering parents to be transparent but thoughtful — and give parents, caregivers, teachers, and clinicians a feasible way to talk about incarceration and what to expect when it’s time to visit a loved one.
